As members of the community we believe it is our responsibility to give back.
As a family that was on the receiving end of a charitable contribution, we personally understand the impact it can have on a family and a community. In 2005, we became a Make-A-Wish family due to our son’s life threatening illness. The team that organized our trip went above anything we could have ever expected. From that moment on, we decided we would always give back to our community and church. We take that responsibility on a personal level, but also on a business level, which is why we have handpicked charities that are close to each team member’s heart. Below you can see what charity each member has picked and learn how we participate.
CENTRAL MISSOURI HONOR FLIGHT
Larry has chosen the Central Missouri Honor Flight as one of Fortified’s main charities. The Central Missouri Honor Flight is an amazing organization that solely exists on honoring veterans and thanking them for all their sacrifices. We firmly support their mission of transporting heroes to Washington D.C. in order to visit the memorials. He is passionate about giving back to those that have fought for our freedom because of his service in the United States Marine Corps during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Larry’s favorite way to volunteer is by being a guardian because he loves meeting other veterans and hearing their stories.
Our active roles with the honor flight:
- Larry is a 10-time Guardian
- Sponsors of donut and snacks for the arrival
- Hosted silent auction to send a local veteran on a flight
CENTRAL MISSOURI HUMANE SOCIETY
Megan has a passion for animals which is why she has chosen Central Missouri Humane Society as her charity. Megan has alway loved animals and wants to take every stray home to care for. Thankfully, she doesn’t have to fill her house full because the Humane Society will never turn away an animal. In 2016 they took in 2,540 unwanted animals with goal of finding the perfect forever home. We are happy to partner with them and help volunteer at the shelter and donate to their cause. We love animals and want to see all of them have a happy forever home.
We participate and support by:
- Donating and attending the annual Whiskers and Wine Fundraiser
- Weekly walking and play dates with the dogs
- Monetary Donations off of the wishlist
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OF MID-MISSOURI
Veronica has always loved the mission of the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Missouri. She is passionate about helping families in need and those struggling with illness. The Ronald McDonald house is built on the idea that family support is everything. Parents should be with their children helping them through their roughest days. At the Ronald McDonald house, families can focus on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay or where they will get their next meal . As a mom, Veronica, has seen illness first-hand, she knows how difficult the simple task of where to sleep or eat can be. That is why we are proud to partner with them and support their “home away from home mission”
We will be supporting the Ronald McDonald:
- Volunteering at the house
- Donations from their wishlist
- Gingerbread competition
Boys & Girls club of columbia
Kate has chosen the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia, because of the work that they do with at risk kids. The after-school program offers a meal, homework help, and numerous activities for the kids to become involved with, at all ages.
As a lover of music and the arts, she appreciates the options that these kids have for exposure to such activities. The addition of a recording studio to their facilities will only enhance the access and opportunities for these kids.
Kate believes that every child should have access to a variety of opportunities, and support among their communities, no matter their financial situation. Because of this, we wholeheartedly support The Boys and Girls Club of Columbia.
Our active roles with the Boys and Girls Club:
- Annual Chili Cook-off
- Volunteer at annual Farm day
- Donations of wishlist items
The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri
Curt chose the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri as his charity because he is passionate about the community. Working with the food bank gives him and his co-workers the opportunity to make a difference in Columbia and the 32 other counties in Missouri. The Food Bank brings hope to those that are hungry and may not have anything to eat.
The Food Bank also has a buddy Pack Program that delivers nutritious foods to many schools in Boone County. The buddy packs given out may be the only nutrition the children have at home during weekend and holidays. As a father this resonated with Curt, he wants to be part of the solution where children do not have to worry about food.
Once a month Our Fortified Team volunteers at the Food Bank and enjoys team bonding.
